The warehouse management module provides several methods for counting using mobile or handheld devices, including Item counting, Blind Counting, or Spot counting.
Counting specific items in the Dynamics 365 Warehouse Management System (D365 WMS) can help ensure accurate inventory management.
Follow these steps to set up and execute a counting process for specific items:
The scenario: After checking the on-hand. For some reason, I want to immediately count the item "A0001" by a mobile or handheld device.
Basically, we can do it easily with the standard warehouse by using a counting journal and filtering that item. But by creating counting work by form "Cycle count work by location" or "Cycle count work by item", the system requires you to count all items in that location.
However, we can use the "Cycle count plan" function to count an item or group of items.
Here is the way to configure and perform the counting. Let's go!
1. Work template
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Work > Work templates
Work order type: Cycle counting

Work pool ID: CycleCount
Work priority: 10

Path: Warehouse management > Setup > cycle counting > Cycle count plans
Select the Cycle count plan ID> Click the button Process cycle counting plan > OK
After running cycle counting plan, let's check the generated work.
We can see here, the counting work is generated for the item number "A0001" as expectation.
After generating works, we can now use the mobile device with the “Cycle Count Guided” menu item to perform counting.
Now you can count the only item A0001 .
Conclusion: By utilizing the Cycle Counting Plan, we can count a specific item or group of items. Some companies may choose to periodically count high-value items or verify items that are not physically visible but are recorded on hand.
